On Friday, June 7, the Williston Keybirds lost the first game of their home doubleheader set with Fargo Post #2 by a final score of 8-3. In the second showdown of the evening, the Keybirds were also on the short end of an 8-1 final.
Fargo jumped all over the Keybirds early on in the first matchup as they put together a five-run inning in the top of the first. Williston managed to answer back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame, but offense would be hard to come by for the rest of the game. The Keybirds scored their only other run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by all-state performer Brady Aberle.
Opposing starting pitcher Tyler Parret recorded the win as he went five strong innings against Williston. Parret did not allow an earned run on three hits while also striking out 10 Keybird batters. By comparison, Williston starter Garret Hill gave up three earned runs on eight hits.
Collectively, the Keybirds accounted for six hits and committed four errors in the ballgame. As for Fargo, they posted 12 hits with just two errors.
In the second game of the twin bill that evening at Ardean Aafedt Stadium, Fargo posted back-to-back three run frames in the second and third innings to take control with an early 6-0 advantage.
Meanwhile, Williston’s offense experience difficulties throughout the contest as they accounted for just a single run on three hits. Garret Hill collected two of those hits, and also recorded Williston’s lone run batted in. Keybirds starting pitcher Jake Engen suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs in three innings of work.
Now 2-2 on the season, Williston’s next scheduled matchup will be a road doubleheader with West Fargo on Tuesday, June 11.
