Olga Sundet, 103
Olga Sundet, 103, of Williston, passed away early Monday morning, March 18, 2019 at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Williston.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 23, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Williston. Rev. Steve Lundblom will officiate. Interment in Riverview Cemetery will follow the funeral service.
Olga (Johnson) Sundet was born on January 8, 1916, the fourth of nine children, at the family farm northwest of Williston. Her parents Gabriel and Mary (Olson) Johnson were Norwegian immigrants who homesteaded in northwest Williams County. She graduated from Williston High School in 1934. She worked as a housekeeper for room and board while attending high school, and at a store in Nohly, Montana in the summer of 1933. While in Minneapolis she worked as a hostess at Langford’s Coffee Shop, and also worked at Bruce Publishing and Fairway Foods. After returning to Williston she managed the East Broadway Café from 1944 to 1947 with her brother Norman Johnson. In addition, they ran a catering service that catered to the Rotary and Lions Clubs.
During those years she volunteered at the Upper Missouri Bible Camp and later taught Vacation Bible School in the rural parishes west of Williston. She also taught Sunday School for many years. On October 8, 1949 she was united in marriage to Ivan Sundet, a neighbor boy, at First Lutheran Church in Williston. They bought the family farm from Ivan’s parents and enjoyed having lots of children and friends at the farm over the many years they lived there. They were active in farming until 1979.
Olga’s life was changed for eternity when she was part of a Bible study with Pastor Casper Nervig, at First Lutheran Church, and came to know Jesus as her Savior. In 1947 she attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis in order to prepare herself to be a missionary. She was a prayer warrior and lived her life as a consistent witness for the Savior; she seldom missed an opportunity to share the love of Jesus with the people around her.
She is survived by her son Warren (Peggy) Sundet of Williston, and their children Sarah (Brad) Arnold (and a great-grandchild to be born in May) of St. Louis, MO, and Michael (Rachel) Sundet and their son Lincoln, and daughter Luella of Minot, ND, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan, her parents, her brothers Selmer, Herman, and Norman, and her sisters Gena, Karen, Marie, Lois, and Ruth.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Our Redeemers Lutheran Church or Bethel Lutheran Foundation.
