She was born Kay Geralene Jensen on September 27, 1935 to Alice Landers and Donald L. Jensen in Minot, ND. Her father came up with her middle name. They lived in Kenmare, ND. Her mother, Alice, passed way in December, 1943 in a car accident. The family moved to Williston where Don met and married Joan Williams. Kay had four sisters, Linda, Carol, Shelly and Kathleen (Kitty). She graduated from Williston High School in 1953. Then she went to Stephens College in Columbia, MO for two years graduating with a Home Economics degree. Kay was Miss Williston in 1953.

She met Kenn Skadeland, who worked at the American State Bank in 1954 between her two years of college, she was set up on a blind date and the rest is history. They were married on October 23, 1955 and were blessed with four children, Kim, Donn, Mike and Lynn.

Kay was a homemaker and loved her “backdoor” friends who would stop by for coffee. She enjoyed time on her porch entertaining family and friends. She loved having one-on-one conversations with her grandchildren. All her life, she has enjoyed spending time in her yard and planting flowers. Kay had an eye for decorating and she was a doer. She helped friends and family wall paper, hang pictures and decorate their homes. She was constantly rearranging rooms and always keeping busy. She always said there wasn’t enough time in the day to get all the things done that she wanted to. She belonged to a Sorority group, PEO, bridge group and activities with the First Lutheran Church.

Kay and Kenn were avid fans of all her children’s events, following swim meets, basketball, hockey and football games, and tennis and racquetball matches. It was a highlight in their lives and they were very proud of each and every one of them. They spent several days in the summer at their cabin at Paradise Point. And they spent the last 6 winters at their home in Arizona enjoying the sunshine and all the ball games of her southern grandchildren.

She is survived by her children; daughter, Kim (Pat) Hennessy and her children, James (Carley), great grandson, Corbin; Amanda (Shawn Erickson), great grandson, Kennet and Rachel, Williston, ND; her late son, Donn’s family, (Jan) Skadeland, Williston, ND and his children, Jamie (Issiah Magalei), great grandchildren, Kalai, Keana and Kyan in Arvada, CO; Jenna (Josh Arp) and great grandchildren, Luna and Oliver, Williston, ND; Jeffrey Skadeland (Halie), great granddaughter, Joanna, Dickinson, ND; her son, Mike (Anne) Skadeland and his children, Josh, Lindsay and Jake; Glendale, AZ; and her daughter, Lynn Skadeland, Sherwood, OR. She is survived by her sisters, Linda (Mike) Voosen, Sun City West, AZ; Carol (Doug) Christensen, Grand Forks, ND; Shelly (Grant) Bushaw, Lipan, TX; Kitty (Eric) Larson, Chandler, AZ.
