Joycelyn Carol Martinson was born October 5, 1942 in Bridgeport, Texas. The daughter of Marylyn Davis and RL Simmons. She attended high school in Willison, North Dakota, where she met the love of her life, James Martinson.
On November 19, 1960, Joyce was united in marriage to James Martinson in Estavan, SK, Canada. Jim and Joyce made their home first in Williston, moved to Grapevine and Bridgeport, Texas, then Lewistown, Montana, before returning to Williston in 1980. From this union, four children were born: three sons and a daughter. During her time in Williston, Joyce worked for the bank and owned Martinson’s flooring with her late husband where she ran a little boutique in the front. After Jim’s passing, Joyce moved to Oceanside, California, to live with her son Bob.
Joyce loved her family dearly and would have given anything for each and every one of them. She was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, Nana, Auntie, and friend. She always brought a smile to everyone’s face through jokes, stories, laughing or just her fun personality. Her silly jokes and stories will live on through everyone that knew and loved her.
Joyce thoroughly enjoyed art, from painting to drawing flowers and landscapes. She loved spending time with family and friends, telling stories and going on wild adventures with her grandkids, nieces and nephews and many young children she made family.
Surviving Joyce are her three sons, Timothy (Kerry) Martinson of Billings Montana, Robert Martinson of Oceanside, Peter (Kerrie) Martinson of Coon Rapids Minnesota; her mother Marilyn Davis, her two sisters Niki (Tom) Lee, Sherry (Gary) Rafter, one brother Randy (Eileen) Davis, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Martinson, daughter Sara Lynn Martinson, father Ed Davis and father RL Simmons.
Joyce’s wish of cremation will be honored and a celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
