John W. Fougner, 87, of Williston, passed away at Trinity Hospital in Minot on Friday, March 15, 2019.
John’s visitation will be held Thursday March 21, 2019 at the Everson Coughlin Funeral Home in Williston from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM with burial to follow at 2:00 PM at the Riverview Cemetery in Williston. Rev. Ross Reinhiller will officiate.
A Celebration of Life for John will be held at a later date.
John wrote his own obituary, it has been reviewed and updated by his daughters:
John W. Fougner was born on June 8, 1931 in Williston, ND to Ingval and Angeline (Braaten) Fougner. He graduated with honors from Williston High School. He was athletic and lettered in every sport. John attended NDSU in Fargo on a basketball scholarship in 1950-1951, where he participated in the Air Force R.O.T.C. Program. John worked for the BNSF Railway, Crighton Distributors, KMB Well Service, & Jacobson Construction. He ended his working career at F.U. Oil Co for 22 years. He retired in 1993 due to health.
John was married to Margaret June Bearce for 27 years. They had five beautiful children. He was very active in the community. He enjoyed participating in various groups such as; the Jaycees, Secretary of the Williston Bowling Association, Member of the Williston Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years, Secretary and Administrator of the Moose Lodge 239 for 25 years. He devoted over 50 years to what he considered to be the greatest fraternity in the world, the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was very proud of the work he accomplished at the Moose Lodge. He continued to help the children of the community, along with his own five children, whom he loved very dearly. He continued his work at the lodge until his health failed. John was active in all sports through the years and held various state and city championships. John was also a member of Faith United Church and was Confirmed at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, and volunteered for wheels on meals.
John is survived by Debra (Guy) Croucher, Jan Tucker, Jon (Tina) Fougner and Kevin Fougner, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Nathan Hendrickson (Dawn), Jonathan and Brinn; Angela (Randy) Evans, Chase and Tenley; Emily (Derek) Wieber, August; Mara Pankow; Heidi Okeson, Taylor Barstad, Jacy Barstad, Corbin, Cade and Coy Okeson; Todd (Heather) Gathman, Landry; Ryan Gathman, Abigail and Melanie; Josh (Camy) Gathman, Payton, EMMA AND NYA; Jon (Tina Stewart) Fougner, Jennifer, (Colton); and Kevin Fougner; and one great-great-grand-daughter, Brynn Barstad (Taylor).
He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Robert, Eugene and Donald Fougner, son Michael Fougner and special friend, Delores Barke.
