Dorne O. “Salty” Solberg passed away March 10, 2017 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 30, 1934 to Andrew Solberg and Christine Vaselenko Solberg in Williston, North Dakota. He graduated from high school in Williston and pursued a career in the oil field industry, eventually moving his family to Kimball, Nebraska. He became a wireline operator owning his own company, Lane Wells, and later working for Oil Well Perforators before retiring and returning to the family farm in Williston. Finally, he made the move to Fort Pierre, South Dakota to live out his final days. He will be fondly remembered by his family for his hard work ethic, his outgoing personality, his humorous stories, his love of family, fishing, camping, hunting, and for his passion for farming. He loved to play card games, to bet on horse races, and to read and learn about history. He is survived by his daughter, Vikki Epperson, Casper, Wyoming, his son Jeffrey (Candace) Solberg, Farmington, Minnesota and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Diane Bervig, Williston, North Dakota, Barbara Solberg, St. Paul, Minnesota, Alan (Sandra) Solberg, Bismarck, North Dakota and numerous nieces and nephews. His daughter Jeri Sherrerd, his parents Andrew Solberg and Christine Vaselenko Solberg, and his stepmother Mary Solberg precede Dorne in death.

A private memorial service is planned for August 5, 2017 in Williston. In memory of Dorne, donations can be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children 1275 East Fairfax Road, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103 or to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
