Delmer G. McNary, age 80, was called home on Thursday, July 19, 2019 as the result of a chronic illness.
Del was born on September 12, 1938 to Clarence “Lee” McNary and Beatrice “Bea” Berry in Williston, North Dakota. Del had 5 brothers and sisters and was raised on the family farm near Buford. He developed a great passion for hunting. Del became an excellent fiddle and accordion player on the farm, and honed his impressive carpentry skills there. Del attended area schools and graduated from Fairview High School in Fairview, Montana. He played all sports but loved baseball the most.
In 1958, Del married Nancy Noteboom in Fairview, Mt. and together they had three children, Brian, Ann Marie, and Brett. Del attended Brown Broadcasting School in Minneapolis and returned to work in local television and radio studios in Williston and Sidney. In 1969, Del moved the family to Butte.
He continued to work in radio but began transitioning into all lines insurance, eventually becoming the owner of Montana Central Insurance Agency. After arriving in Butte, Del became quite an accomplished skier and he loved to golf. Del also loved to fly and obtained his pilot’s license in Butte.
Del picked the family up and moved to Blackfoot, Idaho. In 1980, he was divorced. He eventually moved to Hailey, Idaho where he married Betsey Lenon. Del continued to thrive in the insurance business and he moved wherever there was opportunity. Del and Betsey made homes in Idaho Falls, Jerome, and Twin Falls.
Del is survived by his wife Betsey, sister Diane Maas, children Shawna Kirkman of Springtown,Tx. Gary Lenon of Idaho Falls, Id. Brian McNary of Filer, Id, Ann Marie McNary of Raymond, Wa., and Brett McNary of Gunnison Co. and several grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Evalee Scott, three brothers, Floyd McNary, Lloyd McNary, and Duane McNary.
