Cheryl “Cheri” Baker, Minot, ND, formerly of Williston and Watford City, ND, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018, at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Cheryl Lee Busch was born August 5, 1948, the second of seven children born to Michael and Gertrude (Olson) Busch, in Williston, ND. She was raised and educated in Willison and graduated from Williston High School. During that time she played the clarinet in the high school band and was a model for Hedderich’s Department Store.
Following graduation, Cheri attended Weaver Airline School in Kansas City, MO. She also competed in the Miss Williston Pageant.
Cheri married Keith Hartwig in 1973, and from this union three sons were born: Quinn, Jason and Kent. They made their home in Minot, ND for a few years before moving to Watford City, ND. They remained in Watford City until returning to Minot in 1987. The couple would later divorce.
Cheri was united in marriage with Robert “Bob” Baker in 1998. They made their home in Minot. Bob passed away October 6, 2008.
Cheri worked at Sears and Conlin’s Furniture Store before finding her true passion: selling eye glasses. As an optician, she spent most of her time as the manager of Sears Optical of Minot. She loved her patients and they loved her. She tried to retire several times, but found herself bored and went back to work part-time for Sterling Optical in Minot.
Cheri had many passions over the years. She enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, crafting, reading, gardening (she took a great deal of pride in her yard and flowers), camping, fishing, traveling, shopping (her favorites were clothing, beauty products and yard ornaments) and spending time with her 2 dogs: Mitzi and Mia.
Cheri loved being a mother to her 3 boys. Her only greater passion was for her grandchildren, whom her world revolved around. Cheri always wanted to have a little girl, and her wish was finally granted following the birth of her 2 granddaughters. Time spent with her family made her truly happy.
Surviving family includes: Children, Quinn Hartwig (Emiley Kertscher), Minot, Jason (LeAnn) Hartwig, Williston, Kent Hartwig (Brian McAllister), Minot, Tracey Hartwig, Minot, Amber (Cory) Hansen, Minot and Kerensa (Tim) Gange, Minot; grandchildren, Regan, Remington, Reilyn, Carson, Quinton, Aidon, Kymberly, McKenzie, Madison and Drew; siblings, Kathy Papineau, Mandan, Mary (Ron) Johnson, Williston, Michele Miller, Great Falls, MT, Kitty (Dave) Cole, Bismarck, Michael (Leslie) Busch, Spokane, WA and Cheryl (Craig) Evans, Dalton, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
