Andy Banta, longtime superintendent of Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site has announced his retirement as of May 31.

Banta has worked for the National Park Service for more than 40 years and began his career as a volunteer Park Ranger at Grand Canyon National Park, making stops at Rocky Mountain National Park, Fort Laramie National Historic Site, Badlands National Park, and Fossil Butte National Monument. His work included natural resource management, law enforcement, and interpretation prior to becoming the Superintendent at Fort Union.
