A Williston woman who was not wearing a seatbelt sustained possibly serious injuries in a car accident involving a 2014 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, according to reports from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Michelle Acosta, 29, Williston, is listed in stable condition on the report, which said she was driving a 2014 Buick westbound on Highway 2 near mile marker 9, behind a 2014 Peterbilt Tractor-trailer driven by Travis Hickel, 58, Williston.

Hickel slowed to make a right-hand turn into a private drive. The patrol report says Acosta was distracted, operating the CD player/radio and collided with the rear end of the trailer.

The report said Acosta will be cited for distracted driving.

Two juveniles in the car with Acosta also suffered minor injuries, the report says. Both youths were wearing a seatbelt.

Acosta and the juvenile passengers were given first aid by multiple Good Samaritans before being transported by ambulance to CHI Hospital in Williston.

North Dakota Highway Patrol was assisted by Williams County Sheriff’s Office, the Williston Rural Fire Department and the Williston Fire Department.
