A man arrested last week on a misdemeanor charge is now facing three felony charges after police say he assaulted correctional officers. James Block was charged with three class C felony counts of simple assault on a peace officer.
Block was arrested on Thursday, Sept. 23 on a class B misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended or revoked license. While in jail he became aggressive with correctional officers, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Northwest District Court.
Block was agitated and officers put him in a cell, charging documents state. After he was taken out of the cell Block refused to change out of his street clothes for a shower and threw a punch at one of the officers.
Officers used a taser on him, but he was able to break the wires and continued hitting and threatening officers, court records indicate. In all, police say he kicked or punched three correctional officers.
A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for Oct. 20.
