Oasis Petroleum North America, LLC, recently notified the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality that a produced water spill occurred on Oct. 3 at a saltwater disposal facility they operate in Williams County.
The incident occurred about 5 miles southeast of Williston. The cause of the spill is due to equipment failure and is still under investigation.
Oasis estimates that approximately 220 barrels of produced water discharged, with an estimated two barrels migrating off the pad, impacting an agricultural field. Produced water is a by-product of oil production.
Personnel from Environmental Quality are inspecting the site and will continue to monitor the investigation and remediation.
