A 28-year-old man was ordered held on $100,000 bond Monday after police say he attacked a man who was walking his dog Friday in Watford City.
Cody Lemieux, of Watford City, was charged with aggravated assault and preventing arrest on a felony charge, both class C felonies, and refusing to halt, a class B misdemeanor.
A Watford City police officer spotted Lemieux punching another man multiple times around 12:14 a.m. Friday, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Northwest District Court. When the officer turned on his lights and sirens, Lemieux ran away and the officer was unable to to find him.
The man who had been assaulted told officers that he was walking his dog when another dog started nipping at his dog, charging documents state. He said he walked away, but that Lemieux walked up to him and started to punch him.
The man’s nose was broken, he had bruises and swelling on his cheek and elbow and lost a tooth, police wrote in court records.
Other officers located Lemieux several blocks away, and Lemieux tried to prevent them from arresting him by pulling his arms away while they were trying to handcuff him, the arresting officer wrote in the affidavit of probable cause.
Lemieux is due back in court on Sept. 13 for a preliminary hearing.
