With Summer right around the corner, thoughts are turning to outdoor fun, like swimming, hiking, fishing and camping. All that activity tends to make a person thirsty, and an upcoming workshop wants to quench your thirst with some tasty adult beverages.
1. It’s called the Art of the Cocktail, and it’s sponsored by Republic National Distributing Company and 26th Street Liquor, and will be hosted at the James Memorial Art Center. The evening will consist of a cocktail demonstration, put on by Tony Freed, a representative for Republic National Distributing Company.
“It’s going to be a night of cocktail education,” Freed explained. “We will be learning how to make five different types of cocktails using different types of liquor.”
Using whiskey, bourbon, gin, tequila and vodka, Freed will teach participants how to make some seasonal drinks that they can enjoy not just during the summer, but all year long. Freed will make the cocktails, and provide samples of each to the class. In addition to the cocktail samples provided, participants will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and take home recipe cards featuring the night’s cocktails, made specially for the event by Republic National Distributing Company.
2. Art of the Cocktail is Saturday, May 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets for the event are limited and pre-registration is required. Tickets are $25 per person. As the event is for 21 and over, identification will be verified at registration and again at the door. Registrations can be done by calling the James Memorial at 701-774-3601.
3. The event will feature a silent auction, with proceeds from donated items benefiting the James. Custom artwork and other items from local artists and businesses will be up for bid. As an event sponsor, 26th Street Liquor is offering special discounts for participants who keep their ticket and bring them to the business.
The James Memorial Library is located at 621 First Avenue West in Williston.
