A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the beating death of a 57-year-old man outside a downtown bar in early May.
Justin Crites was arrested Thursday, June 6, on a warrant accusing him of manslaughter, a class B felony. Formal charging documents, including an affidavit of probable cause laying out the police’s reasoning for the arrest, were not entered into the state’s electronic court records system Thursday afternoon.
Crites’ arrest came almost one month to the day since Jay LePage died in a Minot hospital.
LePage was attacked outside The Shop Bar, at the intersection of Second Street East and First Avenue East, early on the morning of May 4. He was taken to a hospital in Minot and died May 7.
Ryan Glenn, Lepage’s stepson, said on May 7 that Lepage was at the bar to commemorate the anniversary of the death of a family member. Glenn said his stepfather was attacked when he left the bar just after closing time and that he was hit in the head.
Police have released almost no details about the attack since it happened, including a possible motive. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation handled the case because Williston police detectives were busy investigating a shooting that happened on the afternoon of May 3.
