Authors Thomas Isern and Kat Socks will be visiting Books On Broadway as part of the Downtown Holiday Stroll, giving visitors a chance to pick up a unique gift with a North Dakota tie.
Isern is a University Distinguished Professor of history at NDSU and will be signing copies of his most recent book, "Pacing Dakota," which came out in July. A collection of short stories and essays, "Pacing Dakota" is Isern's seventh book featuring tales of the Great Plains, which he has collected during his many travels across the state.
Isern has been studying Great Plains history for 40 years, and will be sharing some of the stories he's collected during the event.
Socks is a Bismarck resident, and will be signing copies of her book "Pickles the Dog: Adopted in North Dakota," an illustrated children's book telling the story of Pickles, a fun-loving dog that Socks' family adopted from the Humane Society. The book explores Pickles' adjustment to living on Socks' family farm, while the pair work to make the transition a fun one. Socks is an ardent animal-lover, and she donates proceeds from each sale to the Humane Society.
"They're neat authors," said Chuck Wilder, owner of Books On Broadway. "Their books are very good. These books have both got strong connections to North Dakota, and we thought they'd do really well here with this downtown stroll."
Wilder pointed out that the signing at Books On Broadway is not the only event taking place during the holiday stroll, and encouraged visitors to take part in all the activities taking place during the evening.
"Come downtown and see what Downtown Williston has to offer," he said. "We've put a lot of work into the downtown stroll and making sure there's something for everybody there, and I think we've done a good job. I'm looking forward to our downtown stroll being a really exciting and vibrant event."
Isern and Socks will be at Books on Broadway Dec. 7 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the Downtown Holiday Stroll, with refreshments and snacks available for visitors to enjoy. For anyone who is unable to attend the event but is still interested copies of the books, you can request Books on Broadway reserve a copy of "Pacing Dakota" or "Pickles the Dog" and have them signed by the authors.
