What might be the biggest golf tournament in the entire state is getting ready to kick off Friday in Williston.
The 39th annual Williston Basin API Golf Tournament is Friday at both Eagle Ridge Golf Club and The Links of North Dakota. The first wave tees off at 7 a.m. and the second wave starts at 1 p.m.
In all, there are 93 6-person teams in the tournament divided between the two courses, according to Ken Callahan, president of the Williston Basin API chapter.
The tournament is one of the group’s two big fundraisers for the year, with the other being the annual Chili Cook-Off. Because the cook-off is limited in the number of participants, the golf tournament is bigger.
“This is the one where the energy industry gets to come out and participate,” Callahan said.
The money raised goes toward the various donations the API chapter makes to non-profits and educational institutions around the area. The group recently crossed the $1 million threshold for donations.
For the golf tournament, there is a practice round at both courses starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, followed by a reception at 5 p.m. at Eagle Ridge. On Friday, the main event kicks off at 7 a.m., and at the end of the day there will be a reception for participants.
