Verna Carlson, 73, of Williston died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston. Friends may sign the on-line register book and give their condolences at www.fulkersons.com
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Cornerstone First Baptist Church in Williston. Pastor Ashley Olinger will officiate, and interment will be in the family lot at Riverview Cemetery, Williston.
Verna Mae Blumhagen was born July 4, 1939, at Rural Drake, the daughter of David and Rose (Hirsch) Blumhagen. She attended Drake schools, graduating from Drake High School in 1959. After high school, Verna worked in Towner, Fargo and Washburn, where she met her future husband, David Carlson.
On June 30, 1961, Verna was united in marriage to David Carlson at Rural Drake. The couple made their home on a farm near Washburn, until the fall of 1969, when they moved to Williston.
Verna loved music and taught accordion in Williston and Watford City for several years. She also worked at the Message Center in Williston for many years. In July of 1999, Verna suffered a brain aneurysm and after surgery in Bismarck, returned to Williston and spent the remainder of her years at Bethel Lutheran Home.
Verna enjoyed quilting and made many beautiful quilts for her family.
Verna is survived by her husband of 51 years, David of Williston; one daughter, C. Cody (Darrel) Torkelson of Bismarck and their two daughters, Nicole (Cory) Neumiller of Washburn and Jennifer Jastrzebski of Fort Worth, Tex.; one son, Russell (Beverly) Carlson of Meridian, Idaho and their children, Jennifer (Rick) Rhodes of Birmingham, Ala., Jarred Hall of Lubock, Tex. and James (Caiti) Hall of Meridian Miss.; seven great-grandchildren; her brother, Herbert Blumhagen of Rural Drake; and her sisters, Florence Blumhagen of Rural Drake and Freda McKay of Velva.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Bob Blumhagen and an infant sister, Fern.
Friends may call at the church in Williston on Tuesday one hour prior to services.
