Two die in Sunday accidents

Two people were killed in separate accidents Sunday.

An accident involving a Dodge pickup and a Peterbilt truck tractor and tanker trailer resulted in the death of a man at 6:27 a.m. Sunday just 2.5 miles south of Mandaree.

 According to a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Jesse Douty was traveling northbound in his Dodge pickup on North Dakota Highway 22 near Milepost 135. Matthew Black, driving the Peterbilt truck tractor and tanker trailer, was backing across the highway traveling eastbound.

Douty struck the trailer that the Peterbilt was hauling on Highway 22. Douty’s vehicle came to rest facing north, and Black came to rest facing west. Douty was killed as a result of the accident.

Black did not sustain any serious injuries.

At 2:40 p.m. Sunday, an accident occurred involving a Triumph motorcycle and a Freightliner straight truck and tanker trailer eight miles north of New Town, resulting in the death of a man.

According to a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Brandon Bunnel was traveling west bound on his motorcycle on North Dakota Highway 1804.

Bradley Courtwright, was traveling westbound on North Dakota Highway 1804 in his Freightliner straight truck and tanker trailer.

According to the release, Bunnell went to pass Courtwright and lost control. Bunnell’s motorcycle struck the rear trailer tires of Courtwright’s vehicle.

Bunnell was ejected from his motorcycle.

The motorcycle came to rest facing east in the eastbound lane. Courtwright came to rest facing westbound.

Bunnell was killed as a result of the accident. Courtwright did not sustain any serious injuries.
