Two workers were severely burned after an explosion at an oil drilling site north of Arnegard, according to a McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Bruce Ford, 52, and Rod Law, 48, were working on the Statoil site when the well exploded Wednesday at about midday, according to the release.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation by the office.

The Sheriff’s Office received the call at 12:05 p.m. and McKenzie County deputies responded to the scene, along with the Watford City Fire Department, McKenzie County Ambulance and Arnegard Fire Department.

Ford and Law were transported by the McKenzie County Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center where they were stabilized, then transported by air ambulance to Regions Hospital in Saint Paul, Minn.

The area of the explosion, located near the crossroads of 137th Ave. and 32nd Street, was mostly quiet later Wednesday afternoon.

Calls to Statoil were not returned at press time.
