U.S. Senator-elect Heidi Heitkamp announced Friday that Shirley Meyer will serve as her Western Area Director.

Meyer, a life-long North Dakotan, comes from a farming and ranching background, including being a farmer and rancher herself. She’s also played the role of a small business owner and has been a longtime North Dakota state representative.

“You will not find a more experienced, more knowledgeable person to work on behalf of western North Dakota,” Heitkamp said in a press release.

Meyer will be based in Dickinson where she currently resides with her husband and former North Dakota state senator Dean Meyer.

“I look forward to this new chapter of my life in public service, working with Heidi, her state director Ryan Nagle and her staff here in North Dakota and in Washington to advance the interests of and address the issues facing western North Dakota,” Meyer said.
