A 7-year-old boy was struck by a car Wednesday just as school concluded for the day.
Around 3 p.m., police and the Williston Ambulance responded to 14th Street East and 2nd Avenue East, just outside the Rickard Elementary playground, for a child hit by a car.
Police, EMTs and witnesses surrounded the victim, who was placed on a body board before being loaded onto a stretcher in the ambulance.
An unattended bike was lying on the ground near the victim.
Several students, teachers and parents were still on the grounds of Rickard Elementary and stood by watching the scene unfold.
Some children took to the top of the playground equipment to get a better view.
The apparent driver of the vehicle was speaking to officers, clearly crying while giving a statement.
As of press time, the accident report was still being finished as officers collected information from the fire department.
The victim was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.
No information on the child’s condition is available. More information will made available after the police report is filed.
