An automobile accident occurred Thursday around 5 p.m. with a patrol car at the intersection of Main Street and 2nd Street, hitting another vehicle.

Elizabeth Vondell, 21, of Williston said that she was going north on Main Street where she had a green light, and was halfway through the intersection when a Williston patrol car hit the back passenger side of her Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Vondell was driving with her 23 year-year old sister. They were not seriously injured, however Vondell said that her vehicle was totaled. Vondell said that the female police officer who hit her was immediately placed on a stretcher at the scene and transported to Mercy Medical Center in Williston.

“I didn’t hear any sirens at all,” Vondell said. “I didn’t even know what happened until I looked over and realized she had hit me.”

Vondell said that during the initial investigation at the scene of the accident neither the police officers nor the paramedics on site checked Vondell or her sister for any injuries until after they inspected the police officer.

Officials at the Williston Police Department said that the North Dakota Highway Patrol will be investigating the accident.

Calls made to officials at the North Dakota Highway Patrol in regards to the accident on Friday were not returned.
