While I think Dakota Thunders plan for a 100acre 28 lot housing project would be good for the area, I think the location described is a little to close to the city limits, isn't it? If Williston continues to grow, the area described will be IN the city limits, and those property owners would be fighting the city from annexing their 3-5 acre lots into the city limits. I think that sort of development would be better served at least 5miles out. Just my opinion. Kelly Thursday, Nov 19, 2009 (07:11:15 pm CST)

I sure hope Jack and Jewels can open again somewhere. We need them back in operation as their food was good and gave us another option to eat out. Let's hope the owner sees this and finds a place to open up at knowing this town misses him. fan of Jack and Jewels Thursday, Nov 19, 2009 (11:11:22 am CST)

Concerned parent~ I totally agree with you! There is flu all over Williston. We are told to keep your children at home if they have fever. Sorry I have a 3yr old and when a fever is that high it's very dangerous! I too would take him to the ER and possibly want him admitted if needed. Children are dying all over the US every week of H1N1. I won't be taking any chances! Concerned parent too Thursday, Nov 19, 2009 (10:11:08 am CST)

After reading the front page of the Herald today, it felt like I was in a time warp. "It's like deja vu all over again." I bet you could go into the Herald archives from the late 1970's and find the exact same dilema on housing for oilfield workers, same discussion, maybe even the same politicians! I don't claim to have any easy answers but I certainly hope the outcome is different for the citizens of Williston who stay after the next boom/bust cycle! I was once again reading an article in this mornings paper concerning the housing shortage in Williston. Well what else is new. I just wanted to bring it to everyones attention that it is my understanding that there is a local life long resident and business man who over the past three years was in the process of developing and bulding out a 100 acre, 28 home rural afforadable housing project about a mile out of town just north west of the new Super Walmart. I was told to their suprise they were restricted and naturally met with the good old boy policy of our city. (You may of read of this last year). It is also my understanding that they were restricted by not being supplied with avaliable rural water to service the project. unless they annexed their land to the city. I am tired of listening to this, This project could of freed up many new homes in the area and helped with the problem we face here today. To my suprise I now see that the city is starting to loosen up and fund some projects, well at least the ones that benefit them. I guess they finally understand that you have to give a little to get something. Sorry guys but you can't have your cake and eat it too. So ask yourself this? How come does the city give so much to outside developers who usually run out on them, then restrict the locals who have lived here all their lives, who own property, still pay taxes, and are concerned with the growth of our town and the community. Well mabey I am not smart enough to understand how all of this stuff works, but I have a pretty good idea. Could someone else please shed some light on this subject, I would really appreciate some feedback. (pro or con) Thanks for listening. DAKOTA THUNDER Sunday, Nov 15, 2009 (12:11:20 pm CST)

2 missing dogs
1 Toy Poodle, Brown, has one protruding tooth, usually shaking uncontrollably, responds to the name Jack.
1 Malte-poo puppy (roughly 6-8 months), white, very energetic, answers (sometimes) to the name Tafee.
Someone opened the gate to our yard Thursday afternoon and let these dogs loose and left our 9 year old daughter with a broken heart.
If found please call 580-0015 or 580-2044. Steve Powell Friday, Nov 06, 2009 (06:11:35 am CST)

Don't be critical of the players but support them? You can't be serious. How else are they going to improve? Are you supposed just say GREAT JOB AT LOSING 63-0, YOU GAVE IT YOUR ALL! No, you've got things to improve on to say maybe they were out of shape or needed to practice some more. I just hope you don't have kids because I could see them failing school but you still support them but not being critical. Obviously nobody else is asking questions on why the football program constantly has a losing record except once in every 5 years. So I'll ask the tough questions - Why hasn't the coaches have been sat down to be asked why hasn't their program been sucessful? Best coach in Williston is my former freshman coach. We all know who he is and he is the most qualified to jump start a failing program. But we know it's club that prefers teachers in the district. Sad but true. I was in the E.R. with my son on the 31st. He had a fever of 104.4 and flu like symptoms, they came on rather fast. With the threat of H1N1 I wasn't going to take any chances. When seen by the E.R. Dr. I did explain that we had our reg. flu shots at the end of Sep. he said my son probably had the swine flu offered to test for it, but then advised against it and said that the test only has an 80% pos. and they would treat him for it regardless. I didn't question this that night, it was late and I was also not feeling well. Later I started wondering about this situation, doesn't each county need accuate #'s of H1N1 positives? Don't these #'s have to be reported to the CDC? When I was at the hospital I was told they had seen an unbelievable amount of patients with the flu, when I went to the pharmacy they turned me away because they were out of Tama-flu, and I was lucky I got the the second pharmacy when I did because they were almost out too. If the hospital turned all these people away without doing any testing on them and they have H1N1 and are not reporting it, I have a huge problem with this and so should everyone els. this sickness is serious, with all the warnings out there telling us it's killing perfectly healthy kids. I think we need to be made fully aware of what we are dealing with when we are sending our children to school, when we are going to work, or the store so we can take the proper precations. concerned parent Thursday, Nov 05, 2009 (01:11:45 pm CST)

Williston does not have the numbers to compete with all of these big schools anymore.
They also have strong other fall sports that boys compete in. Please just support the boys that do come out for football and the coaches. The boys need support not criticism when they are doing their best to compete with all the big schools in the state. Coyote Supporter Thursday, Nov 05, 2009 (10:11:45 am CST)

I just wanna say Hello, although it's not like anyone here is going to remember me.
I lived in Williston for a short time in 2006, during mid summer to early fall. I do kinda miss the town and someday, maybe I'll come back if I can find a job in my field out there.
Here's hope that everyone have a very safe, joyous and prosperous holiday season!

Wow embarassed... some nerve you have!! You must not have children involved in sports! Must not have played sports yourself?!!?!? I have been a basketball coach and am also a parent of an athlete! Never once have I heard such negative comments! 63-0 or not, the Coyotes deserve some respect, it obviously isnt going to come from you so please keep your rude, arrogant comments to yourself!! Tiger Mom Tuesday, Oct 27, 2009 (12:10:35 pm CDT)

There really isn't much to ask when you get beat 63-0. It happens. Maybe you got out played or out coached. Either way they need to pick themselves up and play another day. To see how the team recovers from a loss like that show what kind of a team they really are. The negative comments are necessary. They are going into the real world soon. If they do a crappy job, they will get negative comments. Quit trying to shelter them and giving them ribbons and trophies for last place. They lost. Maybe that's what's wrong with parents these days. If you really want to know why they lost, start looking at the coaches’ win/loss record. That would show what really is going on with the program. Ms. Benth. It is too bad you think so poorly about Williston. I am a transplant and I love it here. I think Williston has some of the nicest people I have ever met. I personally may leave someday, but not because of anything bad about Williston, more likly to move closer to my mom, or for a new job. That being said I have no intention of leaving any time soon. I am one trying to be one of those people that thinks Williston is a great place and is willing to put in the extra work to make Williston even better. Mrs. Benth please enjoy paradise, and do not come back, we do not need people with your atitude here. Jeremy Monday, Oct 26, 2009 (02:10:45 pm CDT)

EMBARRASSED, Are you kidding me? It is a game! They went out and played the game. Who are you to judge them? Enjoy watching them try and give them encouragement to keep trying, not knock them down because they didn't win a game. Vicki Saturday, Oct 24, 2009 (10:10:10 am CDT)

I have not been on the guestbook in awhile but, now that i am catching up I feel that I have to say something to "EMBARRASSED". How dare you say that the football score of 63-0 is untolerable! who are you to judge. What are we supposed to do to these football players?!! Should we ground them?! would that make you happy. You obviously do not have kids. Let's pray that you don't! I do and they have been on both the winning and losing side of the fence. It is all part of life. you will not always win in the big world. I was not at the game of course but, good job team for giving it your all! The only person that I am embarrassed for here is "EMBARRASSED" for being so ignorant. anita (bossingham)thiele Friday, Oct 23, 2009 (05:10:01 pm CDT)

I've always loved to watch our children play sports. Why? Because they give it their all, all of the time. No politics, no egos, just play your heart out. My opinion is, it doesn't matter whether they win or lose. They play to learn teamwork, to work as a group, rather than just a single person, and they learn sportsmanship. Negative comments about performance only serves to defeat those principles we hope to teach them. Support these children. When you see the smiles on their faces, and the personal pride in their eyes and smiles, it's so well worth our time and efforts. FormerResident Thursday, Oct 22, 2009 (10:10:14 am CDT)
