On Friday, the Coyotes will dual Jamestown. Williston will also take part in the Blue Jay Invitational, which figures to be a sneak preview of the state meet as every team in the state is scheduled to participate in the event.
"It's about matchups," said Williston swim and dive coach Diana Farrenkopf. "In duals, you win not by just placing first, but by placing second, third and fourth."
In Friday's meet, Williston must be able to find swimmers, who can compete with Jamestown's Landon Ostlie and Willy Marler.
"Those two guys are ranked in the top eight in almost every event," the Williston coach said. With the exception of a meet on Jan. 16 in Dickinson, the Coyotes have been off for nearly a month. However, Farrenkopf isn't worried about the time off.
"Conditioning isn't a concern," she said. "They have had more time for conditioning. They are hungry to compete."
As for Saturday's meet, the Coyotes will have the opportunity to see the rest of the teams in the state.
"It's pretty crowded," Farrenkopf said. "Every team in the state will be there. It will be a chance to look at everybody."
Saturday's meet will also give Williston the chance to experiment with a variety of lineups.
"Some of our guys will be in their strong events," Farrenkopf said. "Others will be in off events."
No matter how the weekend goes, the Coyotes are sure of one thing.
"It's going to be a battle," the Williston coach said.
Friday's meet will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday's meet will open at 11 a.m.
Last week's home meet with Fargo South will not be made up.
"In swimming, there is not much of a chance for a makeup," Farrenkopf said.
