An accident report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol states the accident happened at 4:34 p.m. on Saturday on North Dakota Highway 58 about five miles north of Fairview.
Edward Shannon, 32, Fairview, was traveling northbound on Highway 58 in his 2008 Chevy Silverado and attempted to turn west onto 36th Street Northwest.
John Green, 26, Sidney, Mont., was driving a 1993 Ford Taurus behind Shannon and another vehicle when he attempted to pass both vehicles and struck Shannon’s vehicle as he was making the turn onto 36th Street Northwest.
Green’s vehicle ran off the road and overturned in the ditch. The Richland County Ambulance transported Green to the Sidney Hospital. Green was later cited with improper passing and driving under the influence. His car was totaled, while Shannon’s vehicle sustained rear-end damage.
Both men were wearing seat belts.
The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office and Fairview Fire Department also responded to the accident.
