“It was a tough one,” said Williston coach Rebecca Waitman of Saturday’s match. “We started out on fire. Midway through the second game, we got nervous and got blocked and our defense started to let down.”
The Lady Coyotes kept their season alive Friday with a wild five-game win over Devils Lake.
Williston won Friday’s match 26-24, 22-25, 25-20, 24-26 and 15-13.
“We started off slow against them,” Waitman said of the Devils Lake match. “But we found a way to get a few down (on them).” Ashley Slade paced Williston in Friday’s match with 14 kills and 20 digs.
Though the Lady Coyotes’ season ended with a loss, they walk away from the state tournament with their heads hanging high.
“Be proud of yourselves,” Waitman said on what she told her girls after Saturday’s match. “We weren’t expected to be at state.”
Though the Lady Coyotes lose Slade, Taylor Owan and Laura Maleckar, the future is bright with Cassie Thomas, Dani Clarke, Jaden Lynch and Jackie Lee all sladed to return to next season.
“I’m excited,” the Williston coach said of next season. “We were young this season and we have four solid players coming back. I’m excited.”
