Seniors Kaitlin Bolinske and Sadie Miller each captured an individual state title. The pair were also a part of the 200-yard medley relay team that won the state championship by roughly a second-and-a-half over a team from Minot.
Miller claimed the state title in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.15.
"I wanted to break the (state) record," Miller said. "But I didn't. So I wanted to cut some time off my time and set a new PR."
Bolinske, who is currently in Australia and could not be reached for comment for this story, won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 59.29. She defeated Century's Emily Smallbeck by roughly a half second to claim the title. Smallbeck had defeated Bolinske in the preliminaries a day earlier by .12 of a second. "She new she wanted it the whole year," Miller said of Bolinkse's title. "She went out with the attitude that she wanted it."
Now that both swimmers have struck gold at the end of a long, tiring season, both can enjoy the fruits of their labors.
"It's very exciting," Miller said.
The Williston senior says the secret to both of their success has been keeping their eyes on the prize.
"Just focusing on what we wanted," Miller said.
As for the team's overall performance, Miller says everyone did their part.
"We had a lot of girls, including three eighth graders make the finals," she said.
Moving forward, both swimmers plan to attend college next fall, but neither will likely swim at the next level.
