Wallace Samuelson

Wallace A. “Wally" Samuelson, 79, Watford City, formerly of Brockton, Mont., Arnegard, and most recently the Northeast Montana Veterans Home, Glendive, died on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at the McKenzie County Memorial Hospital, Watford City.

His funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at the Wilmington Lutheran Church, Arnegard. The Rev. Tim Swenson is officiating. Interment is at the Wilmington Cemetery. Friends are encouraged to share condolences and memories with the family online at www.fulkersons.com.

Wallace Alfred “Wally” Samuelson was born on Jan. 18, 1930, to Clement and Alma Samuelson in Brockton.

One of seven children, he grew up in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School.

After high school he joined the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. In 1950, Wally married Jane Ann Priebe and they were stationed at Camp Stoneman, Calif. After being discharged in 1951, they moved back to Brockton, moving their family to Arnegard in 1955. There they raised five boys. In 1957, Diana Jane was born and was received by the Lord within her first year of life, after suffering from spina bifida.

Wally managed the Farmers Elevator Company, Arnegard from 1955 to 1973 when he suffered his first heart attack. In 1973, Wally and his family moved to Watford City. He returned to the grain business in 1983 and was manager of the Mondak Farmers Elevator, Arnegard until he retired. In June 2006, Wally moved to the Eastern Montana Veteran’s Home, where he enjoyed wonderful care until coming back to Watford City on Friday, Nov. 13.

Wally loved the community of Arnegard, serving as mayor, fire chief, school board member, public works servant and numerous other community services. He enjoyed it all.

Wally loved spending time at McKenzie Bay and he passed his love of boating, fishing and family togetherness onto his 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Ann; sister, Harriet; sons, Pat (Pauline), Shoreview, Minn., Fred (Helen), Port Orchard, Wash., Curtis (Charlene), Jerry (Raynette), and Randy (Barb), all of Watford City and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Victor, Donald and Gordon; sisters, Carol and Lois and by daughter, Diana Jane.

Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday and an hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
