A Williston man faces charges of driving under suspension and driving on the left half of the roadway not in overtaking after an accident Monday morning one mile east of Four Bears Casino near New Town.

A report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol states Williston's Tommie Lee McCarty Jr., 48, was driving a 1999 Buick east on North Dakota Highway 23 at 7 a.m. with Jonas Blaine Fredericks, 22, of Dickinson as a passenger.

A 2004 Chrysler driven by Rebecca Jean Canyon, 68, of New Town, with passengers Brandy Jo Canyon, 31, and Martinez Canyon, 4, both of New Town, was traveling west on Highway 23.

McCarty drove left of the highway centerline and hit Canyon, with Canyon coming to rest in the south ditch facing south.

The vehicle McCarty was driving came to rest in the eastbound lane facing east. McCarty and Fredericks were taken by ambulance to Minot's Trinity Hospital.

The Canyons refused ambulance service and were taken to Trinity Hospital by a personal vehicle.

Along with the Highway Patrol, the Mountrail County Sheriff's Office, New Town Police Department, New Town Ambulance and New Town Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident.
