With the Christmas season fast approaching, there are a number of activities for you to note on your family calendar.
Community support of these events is encouraged as these performers work hard and volunteer their time in order to provide quality entertainment.
The Williston State College Community Strings, formerly known as the Williston Strings, is one of those programs.
It is under the guidance of Herb Parker Jr., who now serves as a full-time music teacher at Williston State College (WSC). Beginning at 7 p.m. on Nov. 27 you will be able to enjoy the sounds of this group as a "Warm-up After The Light-up" of Harmon Park.
The warm sounds will take place at the James Memorial Center for the Arts.
That evening serves as a Williston kick-off to the Christmas season.
You can also enjoy the Strings at 3 p.m. on Nov. 29 with the Thursday Musical hosting a program at the Bethel Lutheran Home activity room.
The Strings will join with the WSC band and the WSC Select Singers for a musical program set for 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Room 216E on the campus of WSC.
If that’s not enough, you will have an additional opportunity to enjoy the Strings at 3 p.m. on Dec. 13 as they join with the WSC Concert Choir and the Williston Community Concert Chorale at the First Lutheran Church, Williston.
Taking in any or all of these concerts will put you in the right frame of mind and the spirit of the season.
DANCE FEVER PRESENTS THE GRINCH
You will have two opportunities to sit back and enjoy the Dance Fever production of The Grinch.
Angela Ekblad will direct this classic tale that will be told through the artistry of dance.
The first performance is set for 7 p.m. on Nov. 28, with the second slated for 3 p.m. on Nov. 29 at the Williston High School Auditorium.
Tune into Scoping it Out at 3:30 p.m. Friday on News Radio KEYZ 660 AM to learn more about The Grinch.
INC! OFFERS A CHRISTMAS STORY
Not to be outdone, the good folks over at Entertainment Inc! are working hard to debut A Christmas Story on stage at the Old Armory Theatre with performances running Dec. 3-7.
This is a true classic and one you don’t want to miss.
We’ll tell you more about this at a later writing.

TUBA CHRISTMAS AT THREE SITES
If you think Virgil Syverson, at the age of 92, is sitting back with nothing to do, you are mistaken.
Syverson is working hard to present the 18th annual Tuba Christmas which will be offered at three different concert sites on Dec. 5.
This ensemble of tubas and baritones/euphoniums will provide some timely sounds.
The group will rehearse that morning at First Lutheran Church, followed by a 1 p.m. concert at the First Lutheran Chapel.
That is followed by a 1:50 p.m. concert at The Kensington, while wrapping things up at 2:45 p.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Home Activity room.
MASQUERADE JEWELRY SALE TODAY
Should you be just getting home and reading this you still have until 6 p.m. this evening to venture up to the McCauley Room at Mercy Medical Center as the Mercy Auxiliary is hosting the annual Masquerade Jewelry sale.
Hey, you might event get in on some great bargains.
Everything is priced at $5, making for some great stocking stuffers.Proceeds from this event go to patient needs at the hospital.
At this time of year this is a great way to pitch in and do some good.
ST. JOE'S PTO HOLIDAY BAZAAR
On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. you can check out the St. Joseph’s PTO Holiday Bazaar set for the school gymnasium.
A number of craft items and goodies await you, along with homemade soups and breadsticks.
Now that sounds like one you don’t want to miss.
POWER OF THE NIGHT SKY
Another event you don’t want to miss out on is the Power of the Night Sky slated for the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center on Saturday.
The evening, set to begin at 7:30 p.m., features a lecture on how the skies come into play, followed by some stargazing.
How’s that for a different twist?
Earlier in the day, beginning at 11 a.m., at the Confluence center quilters will have an opportunity to check out Quilting with Jewell Wolk "Appli-J Picture Quilts."
Sounds like a full day.
NEXT ROUGHRIDER HONOR FLIGHT SET
Any area World War II veteran that hasn’t applied for the next Roughrider Honor Flight you are encouraged to do so.
Approximately 100 additional veterans will be taken to Washington, DC, on April 16 to view the memorial built in their honor.
This is the third Roughrider Honor Flight to originate out of Bismarck.
The trip is conducted free of charge to the veterans as a way to simply say thanks.
At the same time funding to continue this excellent program is being sought.
