Dr. Thomas J. Kovacs, D.C., is opening the Kovacs Chiropractic and Nutrition Center on Dec. 1 in Williston.

The center is located in the new Diamond Plaza building at 2304 11th Avenue W., Suite #104, just west of The Kensington and Sears.

Dr. Kovacs and his wife, Angela, re-located from Florida to Williston to be closer to family.

“My wife grew up in Glendive, Mont., just west of the North Dakota border. Both sets of her grandparents farmed just outside Alexander, their whole lives and her parents, along with several relatives, have lived in Williston for over 30 years,” he said. “This is home to her and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

During holiday trips back and forth from Florida to Williston is when Dr. Kovacs began to fall in love with the area. “There’s a warmth here you don’t find in many other places. Everyone I’ve met has been friendly and supportive of the idea of me opening up here,” he said.

He likes how this town is excited to see new businesses come to the area and he felt this was a way he could serve a need within the community.

“I’m drawn to the small-town feel and the quality of life Williston offers. It’s also very family-oriented which is a positive attribute,” he said.

“It's great to have someone of Tom's character invest in our community by opening a chiropractic office in Williston. People from around the country are recognizing what a great place Williston is to do business in,” said Williston Mayor Ward Koeser.

Dr. Kovacs specifically appreciates the help of the following people who put forth their efforts in helping him get started: Dr. Ron Wright owner of Wright Chiropractic who’s been a great friend and support, Tom Rolfstad with Williston’s Economic Development, Keith Olson with the ND Small Business Development Center,

The Sign Shop, Gary Wendel, Brian Brubaker Construction, Earl’s Electric, Dr. Jaszczak owner of Fairlight Medical Center and Mike Skjei owner of Skjei Design Co.

Getting acclimated to the winter weather has been easy for Dr. Kovacs as he spent four years in Bloomington, Minn. attending Northwestern College of Chiropractic.

He graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2004. Prior to attending Northwestern, he finished his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and graduated in 2000.

He started his chiropractic career in Florida as an Associate Doctor and transitioned into owner of the practice after a few years.

“We finally decided that we really wanted to be closer to family so we made the move to Williston in December of 2008,” he said.

Dr. Kovacs’ love for chiropractic came at a very young age.

“My family had always gone to chiropractors and I have been getting adjusted since I was three years old,” he said. “Chiropractic helped my severe ear aches that I had as a child and my mom would take me there anytime I had a cold or the flu or a muscular skeletal issue and it always helped.”

Having grown up around the natural approach to medicine, using vitamins, herbs and chiropractic care, his passion for the field of chiropractic and nutrition immensely intensified in his early teens.

He decided while attending college to pursue chiropractic medicine.

Chiropractic techniques that will be used in his practice are Diversified, Thompson Drop, Activator, Upper Cervical and Flexion Distraction.

“I will also be using soft tissue techniques such as trigger point therapy and neuromuscular re-education,” Dr. Kovacs said.

He will be providing patients with clinical nutrition as well through a comprehensive systems-based approach which looks at the whole body as it relates to any nutritional deficiencies.

“I will be using whole food supplements, concentrates and herbs to accomplish this,” he said.

A detox purification program will be offered to cleanse the body from toxicities in foods and the environment and a weight management plan will be offered as well.

“I enjoy serving others and helping patients find solutions that will enable them to obtain their quality of health,” he said.

Dr. Kovacs is a member of the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce and looks forward to joining more community organizations in the future.

“Being active in the community is something I look forward to,” he said.

Dr. Kovacs is now accepting appointments for the month of December.

To make an appointment, call 701-774-3832 or 1-877-245-5189.
