The Williston State Tetons shot the lights out Thursday night in the opening game of the Mon-Dak basketball tournament at the Well on the campus of Williston State College.

The Tetons hit 52 percent of their shots from the floor en route to a 118-83 win over Bismarck State College. Williston State also hit 13 of 26 shots from behind the 3-point arc.

"A win is a win," said Williston State College coach Hunter Berg. "I'll take it anyway I can get it."

The Tetons erased any doubts about the outcome of this game early on. Williston State jumped out to 23-5 lead four minutes into the contest and led 68-38 at intermission. Williston State hit 25 of 49 shots from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

In the second half, Williston State built a 44-point lead at 88-44. Shortly thereafter, the Tetons emptied the bench and the Mystics went on a 29-5 run to pull to within 22. "It's a product of the game and the point margin," Berg said of the Mystics' run. "There's a tendency to let us let up. The bench needs to step up and play some consistent minutes.

Charlie Chapman led five Williston State College players in double-figures with 28 points. He hit 15 of 18 shots from the floor, including 6 of 7 from long distance.

Luke Martinez added with 22, while Shamile Jeffers scored 18 in the win. The Tetons also got 15 points from Thaddeus Perry and 14 from Tarell Clark.

Jordan Thilmony scored 18 points in the loss for the Mystics.
