Lloyd Dean Hamers was born on March 19, 1946, to Charles and Wilma (Kerbaugh) Hamers in Williston. He was raised and educated in area schools, graduating from Tioga High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1969.
He attended Bismarck Jr. College where he received his certification in auto body repair. He returned to the Tioga area where he worked at the H & S Body Shop and Blikre Motors. In 1983, Lloyd opened the North Hill Body Shop.
Lloyd loved to live life. He enjoyed camping and fishing for many years at White Earth Bay. He played softball until last winter and joined a team while living in Florida. He played in the Night Stars for five years. He was a Packers fan.
He enjoyed playing in poker games and tournaments. He loved to collect and refurbish old cars. He loved to go for motorcycle rides with his friends and would take a yearly trip to the Sturgis Bike Rally and had attended for 30 years. Lloyd was a member of the VA, the VFW and was an active member of the NRA, Tioga Racing Association, the Tioga Gun Club, snowmobile club, and the Tioga Car Club. He also enjoyed participating in the Tioga Bowling League.
He enjoyed traveling overseas and within the United States, spending his winters in Florida and Las Vegas. He always enjoyed dancing and over the past several years enjoyed ballroom dancing.
Most of all, Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his friends in any way, shape or form. He was a kind and compassionate caregiver to his mother, who he loved very much.
Surviving Lloyd are his mother, Wilma, Tioga; one daughter, Kristy (Don) Knudson and their children, Dalton and Dante; sister, Ann Dobler, Williston; sister-in-law, Pat Hamers, Williston; grandchildren, Jayme Bitterman (Matt Jorstad) and their children Madisyn and McCoy, all of Tioga, and Justin Hamers, Sidney; nephews, Curt Hamers, Frank Hamers and Les Hamers; and nieces, Debbie Hamers, Charlene Syverson and Cindy Dobler.
Preceding him in death are his father; one son, Rick Hamers; longtime life companion, Kathy Barmoen; brother, Chuck Hamers; one infant brother; and one brother-in-law, Leo Dobler.
Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and for the hour preceding the service at the church on Thursday. Friends are welcome to share memories and condolences with the family at www.fulkersons.com.
