The Williston High School girls swim and dive team knocked off defending state champion Minot and four more teams to win the WDA championship on Saturday in Jamestown.

Williston’s performance included one relay championship, four individiual championships and six all-conference selections.

“I don’t know if it could have went in any better,” said coach Jody Bolinske. “We were hopeful (of winning the team title). That wasn’t our total focus. Our focus was to do our best and let the outcome happen. I think when we went in there and we saw that we were doing that well, I think all the kids just chose to step up and they swam really well. There were a lot of situations where kids placed that were just very imortant spots. “

The Williston relay team took the 200 medley title with a team of Kaitlin Bolinske, Sadie Miller, Madison Porter and Kelsey Stenson in a time of 1:51.06.

Porter and Bolinske each won two individiual titles. Porter took the 200 freestyle in 1:56.41 and the 100 Butterfly in 57.55. Bolinske won the 100 freestyle in 53.65 and the 100 backstroke on 59.98. Sadie Miller won the 100 breaststroke for the Coyotes in 1:08.77.

Seniors Bolinske, Miller, Porter, and Alexis Klug earned all-conference honors for the Coyotes, as did junior Alyssa Stewart and eighth-grader Bryn Everson, the only eighth-grader to do so.

Minot’s Dagny Knutson was named senior athlete of the year.

The state swim meet will be Friday and Saturday in Grand Forks.

" That is awesome. I am not a big follower of swimming, but it is my understanding that Minot has been a powerhouse for a long time.
