Ray uses workman-like effort to knock off Burke County
Divide County sweeps Tioga in District 16 tourney match

It wasn’t flashy and it wasn’t the most exciting, but the Ray Lady Jays will gladly take their opening round victory over Burke County in the District 16 volleyball tournament Tuesday night at Tioga High School.

The Lady Jays won by scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18.

The scores really weren’t indicative of how Ray played. In all three games, the Lady Jays had Burke County on the ropes only to let the Lady Titans back into the games and make them closer than they really were.

“We had our stretches,” said Ray volleyball coach Michelle Dolan. “Maybe we lost our intensity.”

Despite losing their intensity, the Lady Jays played a strong all-around match. “We were pretty decent on serves,” Dolan said. “Our two middles had good games.”

Samantha Heier led Ray with 24 kills and 18 digs. LeAndra Reinholdt finished with 18 assists and 18 digs in the win.

Chelsey Johnson finished with 20 digs and 14 assists in the loss for Burke County. Morgan Pandolfo finished with nine digs and nine kills in the loss.

Ray will advance to play Divide County, who defeated Tioga in three games earlier in the evening on Tuesday.
