With a recent victory over Minot and a first-place showing at last weekend's Jamestown Invitational, the Lady Coyotes are clearly one of the teams to beat.
"I'm excited to see what happens," said Williston coach Jody Bolinske.
Williston is also hopeful of correcting a wrong at the 2008 WDA meet.
Last season, Century edged out the Lady Coyotes by a half point to claim second. "That's not going to happen this year," Bolinske said. "Everybody's goal is to be No. 2."
Behind the swimming of Dagny Knutson, Minot enters the WDA as the team to beat. However, it takes more than one to win a swim meet.
"It's their numbers that make them win," Bolinske said.
Still, the Lady Coyotes have the potential, as shown in their Oct. 20 home win over the Magicians to spring the upset.
"We're going to do really well," the Williston coach said. "They've put in the work."
One thing is for certain, the rest of the state will not overlook the Coyotes.
"We've made our presence known," Bolinske said.
Expect Williston to have a strong showing in the 200-yard Medley Relay. Kaitlin Bolinske, Sadie Miller, Madison Porter and Kelsey Stenson set a pool record in the event in the win over Minot.
Williston should also be strong in the 200 IM (Miller), 100-yard Butterfly (Porter and Ashly Hellen), 100-yard Freestyle (Kaitlin Bolinske) and 100-yard Breaststroke (Miller).
But the Coyotes need to have the efforts of the entire team to have success this weekend.
"Everybody's got to be on the same page," coach Bolinske said. "We've been stressing all season that it is a team effort."
Entering this weekend, Williston has roughly 21 swimmers, who have achieved state-qualifying marks. Saturday's meet will be the final opportunity for the rest of the Coyotes to secure spots in the state meet.
"We need to have a clean meet, a fast meet and everything else will take care of itself," coach Bolinske said.
The state meet will be Nov. 13-14 in Grand Forks.
