Tigers serve up play-in win over New Town in District 15 tourney By Kyle Mayhugh/Williston HeraldThe Trenton Tigers service attack made the flight over the net a one-way trip on Monday night in Stanley for the District 15 tournament opener. The Tigers hit 37 aces in their 3-1 victory against New Town to advance to today's semifinal match against top-seeded Stanley. Trenton won 25-8, 22-25, 25-20, 25-9 "We've been practicing all week with the full six on the court, and we've been playing well together," said Trenton coach Jean Turcotte. The Tigers looked like they could cruise in the early going. Autumn Hove had three aces in the first four points of the game as they opened up a 4-0 lead, and Charalyn Vondall closed the first game with six aces in the final eight points as Trenton won 25-8 and closed the opener on a 12-0 run. New Town found their feet and got back into it with a 25-22 win in the second game, and led 15-11 in the third before the Tigers got back on track. This time it was Siera Zimmerman with a quick three aces in four shots to give Trenton a 20-16 lead. Zimmerman also had four aces in a 9-0 run early in the fourth game to help Trenton seal the win. "We've been practicing a lot like that, we'll go 10 or 15 minutes serving, then do something else, then go right back to serving," Turcotte said. Vondall finished with a team-high nine aces for Trenton. Courtney Moran had nine kills and five aces, and Siera Zimmerman had seven aces.
