Minot downs WHS in season finale By Mark Jones/Sports EditorThe Williston High School Coyotes closed out the 2009 football season Wednesday night with a 34-0 loss to the Minot Magicians at Cutting Field. "We came out and battled hard," said Williston head coach Todd Matthews. "They kept working and working until they found what worked." The Coyotes turned the ball over on their first two possessions inside their own territory. After turning the ball back over on downs after the first turnover, Minot took full advantage of the second as Jonas Tengesdal ran in from 6 yards out for the first Minot touchdown. The Magicians broke the game open with three second quarter touchdowns. The first came on a 12-yard run by Tengesdal. The second score was a 6-yard run by Isaiah Steinwand. Minot's third touchdown came in the final moments of the opening half as Max Murphy hit Aaron Kohlman from 13 yards out to give the Magicians a 27-0 lead at intermission. Minot's lone second half score came on the first play from scrimmage. Murphy hit Jarid Hoffman from 49 yards out to give Minot a 34-0 lead. For the game, Minot finished with 391 yards of total offense. Murphy finished 5 of 9 passing for 150 yards, while Jace Olander carried the ball 16 times for 77 yards for Minot. Williston finished with 106 yards of total offense. Kaleb Barstad carried the ball 13 times for 58 yards for the Coyotes. Williston finishes the season with a 1-9 record. With at least 20 players returning next season, the Coyotes figure to be much improved. "We've got to find a weight room," Matthews said. "We've got to get bigger and stronger and we can control that."
