A report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol states the accident took place at 2:08 a.m. on North Dakota Highway 23 about three miles west of New Town.
The accident happened when Gordon Blake, 54, New Town, was traveling westbound on Highway 23 in his 2008 Honda. Approaching him in the other lane traveling eastbound was Christopher David, 33, Dickinson, who was driving a 2001 Peterbilt.
Blake's vehicle crossed over the center line and into the eastbound lane. David swerved to avoid being struck by Blake's vehicle, which struck the back axle group on the trailer of David's vehicle.
Blake had to be extracted from his vehicle by the New Town Fire Department. The New Town Ambulance then transported him to the Trinity Medical Center in Minot. Blake was later charged with driving under the influence. His vehicle was totaled in the accident.
David was cited for no medical card in possession. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $25,000.
The Mountrail County Sheriff's Office and Bureau of Indian Affairs also responded to the accident.
