Michael R. McIntee, a retired attorney in Williston, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at Medcenter One, Bismarck, surrounded by his family. He was 88.

His Mass of Christian burial is at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Williston. The Rev. Dennis Schafer is officiating. Interment is in the Riverview Cemetery. 

An evening vigil with a rosary is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at the Everson Memorial Chapel.

"Ray" as he was known, was born on Aug. 5, 1921, to Michael Joseph and Bernetta Margaret (O'Brien) McIntee on their farm in Northgate, the second of three sons. He graduated from Northgate High School and received his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of North Dakota prior to entering the United States Air Force during World War II, where he served as a bombardier officer instructor. He returned to UND for post graduate studies and then taught high school for one year before joining Montgomery Ward and was employed at several stores in Montana and Wyoming before being transferred to Williston. 

Ray and Marian were united in marriage on June 26, 1943, in East Lansing, Mich. He resigned his position with the company to return to law school at the University of North Dakota, where he graduated in 1953 and was elected King of the Law School. He returned to Williston and was a partner in the law firm of Burk, McIntee and O'Connell until 1956, when he was elected Williams County States Attorney and served in this position until 1960. He continued to practice law in the firm McIntee and Whisenand, P.C. until he retired in 1995.

Ray was very generous with his time and commitment in civic and community affairs.

He dedicated himself to the Mercy Medical Center and was honored in 1993 for 40 years of service on the advisory board and was chairman of the board of Medquest Inc. Over the years, Ray served as president and lt. governor of the Kiwanis, grand knight of the Knights of Columbus and exalted ruler of the Elks. He was president of the State Bar Association of North Dakota, director of First National Bank and Trust Company of Williston and served as a member of the board of regents at the University of Mary, Bismarck. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and served as a trustee.

Ray is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marian Zerr McIntee; his daughters and their husbands, Dr. Rae A. McIntee and Dennis E. Frericks, Quincy, Ill., Jan M. Stricker and Paul Stricker, East Grand Forks, Minn., and Geri A. McIntee and Larry D. Boeck, Bismarck; his son and his wife, Dr. Michael J. McIntee and Julie McIntee, Bismarck; his grandchildren, Joseph Michael McIntee and his wife Sophie Emerson McIntee, John Patrick McIntee Hermens, Maureen Katherine McIntee Hermens, Jesse Rae Stricker, Colton James Stricker, Alexandra Marie McIntee, Michael Christopher McIntee, Addison Claire McIntee, Megan McIntee Boeck, Colin Michael Boeck and step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Frericks, Kelly Lynn Frericks, Ryan Eugene Frericks and Ashley Lynn Marquis also survive grandpa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joseph C. McIntee and Cletus J. McIntee.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Kemp and the nurses at the Mercy Medical Center, Williston, Dr. Larry daSilva and Dr. Jeanette Viney at MedCenter One, Bismarck and the nurses on 7 East for their outstanding and compassionate care. We are indebted to the care and love of Teresa, Holli, Diane, Rhoda, Kristen and Jasmine, who allowed our father the ability to stay in his home.

Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mercy Medical Foundation, Williston and the University of Mary in Bismarck.

Friends may call at the Everson Funeral Home, Williston from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 and Thursday at the church for the hour preceding the funeral Mass.
