Shirley Wagner, 66, Bismarck, died on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, in her home.

A memorial service is on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck.  A visitation is on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Inurnment is at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan.  Cremation has taken place.

Shirley was born on Dec. 27, 1942, to Knut and Guida (Torkelson) Peterson. Shirley graduated from Epping High School and then graduated from a business college in Bismarck. 

She spent most of her career as a bank teller. She retired from the Bank of North Dakota on Dec. 31, 2006, after 20 years of service. 

Shirley was united in marriage to John E. Wagner on June 3, 1965, in Bismarck. They lived in Aberdeen, S.D., Ankeny, Iowa, Grand Forks and Fargo. Their final move was back to Bismarck in 1985, where they spent their remaining years together. Shirley was an avid athlete in high school and continued with multiple bowling and softball leagues as an adult. She enjoyed crafts and playing cards. 

She loved being with her family and friends and spending time with them. She also enjoyed going on trail rides with her husband and their friends.

Shirley is survived by her mother,  Guida Peterson, Springbrook; children, Kurt (Sandy) and their children, Kayla and Kody Wagner, Wimbledon, Karla (Colin) and their child, Neville Hicks, Beavercreek, Ore., Keith (Marie) and their children, Jesse, John and Justin Wagner, Driscoll; brothers,  Ted (Maria) Peterson and Marlin (Diane) Peterson, Rapid City; sister-in-law, Lela Peterson, Reynolds; brothers-in-law, David Wagner, Media, Pa., Alvin (Joanne) Wagner, Anamoose and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Knut Peterson; husband, John Wagner; brother, Wayne Peterson and sister-in-law, Loretta Noble.
