The Coyotes will attempt to do something no other school has even come close to doing this season — defeating the top-ranked Bismarck Demons. Kickoff is set for Saturday evening in Bismarck at 7 p.m.
"They're the best team in the state by far," said Williston football coach Todd Matthews.
The Demons come into Saturday's contest with a 6-0 mark on the season. In the their six victories, the Demons have won by an average margin of 30.5 points, and have scored no fewer than 35 points.
"They've got one the best quarterbacks in the state and the fastest running back," Matthews said. "And they have some big-time wide receivers. So they have the full package." Esley Thorton is the focal point of the Bismarck offense as the team’s quarterback. Jake Miller will carry the bulk of the ground game as the featured running back.
"We've got to get to Miller and make sure we tackle," Matthews said.
Limiting mistakes figure to be Williston's best hope of pulling the upset.
"We've got to limit the turnovers," the Williston coach said. "In the last couple of games, turnovers have killed us. We've got to take care of the ball."
Matthews says his team needs to be ready to play from the get-go.
"They are a very aggressive team," he said. "They will come out and hit hard."
After Saturday's evening game, the Coyotes will play at Dickinson a week from tonight. Williston will close out the season with a home game on Oct. 21 against Minot.
