FBI expects Krimm link to thefts

The Federal Bureau of Investigation Minneapolis Division is conducting an investigation to determine if the man who robbed a Williston bank last month and then killed himself may have robbed other banks.

Special Agent E.K. Wilson of the FBI Minneapolis Division said the bureau began an investigation of James Krimm, 42, Valley City shortly after he robbed the Williston American State Bank north branch on Sept. 14. Wilson said there is reason to believe Krimm may have robbed other banks in the last several years.

“We’re looking into the records of bank robberies that took place in North Dakota and the surrounding states to determine what other banks he may have robbed,” said Wilson.

On Thursday the Associated Press reported that law enforcement believes Krimm matches the description of a man who robbed a Jamestown bank in December 2008. The AP also reported Krimm may have robbed banks in the South Dakota towns of Redfield and Watertown, as well as Dilworth, Minn.

Wilson isn’t sure what law enforcement officers in those communities had announced that information, but he said the FBI isn’t able to confirm any of those reports at this time. Wilson did say from information gathered from its investigation so far, it appears Krimm did in fact rob other banks.

“We suspect there is going to be more than the one bank robbery linked to him,” said Wilson.

The FBI Minneapolis Division is in contact with several of its field agents who are gathering information for its investigation. Wilson said the FBI should have its investigation wrapped up within the next couple of months.

“It’s progressing as planned. It’s still too early to confirm what banks he did or did not rob,” he said. “But it does appear that he likely did commit multiple robberies over the past several year period.”

" Thanks to The Herald for continuing to update this story. Although the case might be closed as it relates to the Williston event, looking into his past activities will hopefully bring conclusion and closure to the open cases that they are linking him to at this time. The communities that he is being linked to deserve to know that they will not need to worry about him coming back, and those that have had to deal with the emotional stress and trauma can find some closure with this knowledge. " Why are my tax dollors being wasted on a case that will never go to trial, nobody will be punished or real questions that can be answered? The guy commited a crime and paid for it with his life, by his own hands. Obviously there was something going on with this guy...bad luck, no job..any number of things. The ordeal is over. Isn't there real - live cases that require this much attention? "
