No. 3 ranked Bismarck Century comes to Williston this evening

Things don't get any easier this week for the Williston High School football team.

The Coyotes (1-3) are set to host the Bismarck-Century Patriots at Cutting Field this evening with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

"They are one of the top teams in the WDA," said Williston football coach Todd Matthews. "They come back with some experience."

Bismarck-Century comes into this evening's game ranked third in this week's Class AAA polls. After opening the season with a 28-14 loss to Fargo South, the Patriots have won three straight games, including a 34-7 win over Jamestown last week.

"They are one of the preseason favorites," the Williston coach said. Matthews says the Patriots are one of those teams that have several players capable of having a big game on any given week.

Bismarck-Century quarterback Jesse Kartes is the focal point of the Patriot offense. Running back Bruce Govig has been a workhorse on the ground this season for Bismarck-Century.

He has also come out of the backfield to be a favorite pass target for Kartes.

On defense, the Patriots have a strong set of safeties in Jake Glass and Garret Jacobs, who very well could cause problems for Coyote quarterback Alex Hanson and the Williston passing game.

The Williston offense will be without the services of wide receiver Derek Opperud, who will miss tonight's game after suffering a shoulder injury last week.

"We've got to get some consistent play on both sides of the ball," Matthews said. "We've got to finish off drives. And defensively, we've got to shore up the perimeter."

In last week's loss to Grand Forks Red River, the Coyotes managed just 12 points off of 291 yards of total offense.

After this evening, Williston will prepare for its Homecoming game against Mandan a week from tonight.
