WSC’s time has arrived

Published/Last Modified on Thursday, September 24, 2009 10:59 AM CDT

Timing is often a major factor to success. It appears Williston State College’s time may be now.

Thanks to the efforts of area lawmakers and community leaders in recent years, the college has become a focal point for workforce training in the state’s oil patch, expanding upon its two-year liberal arts core curriculum.

Again, thanks to the efforts of area lawmakers and others, WSC is now embarking on several major capital improvement projects that are designed to enhance the true college experience on the local campus. Remodeled science labs, a new student dorm and a career and technical center are major projects being developed for students to embrace and to become enthused about attending WSC.

As these projects formally break ground and become visible on campus, they are surely going to create a vibrant and energetic feeling that’s associated with true growth.

This physical growth comes at a time when WSC may have turned the corner on its student enrollments. Tuesday’s announcement that WSC’s official fall head count and full-time student numbers are up this year also is obvious good news. The double-digit percentage increase in WSC’s fall head count is impressive, while seeing the full-time student numbers increase, even by just 10, is a positive sign.

Now the challenge for WSC officials is to develop a marketing strategy that capitalizes on all of these positives that have evolved in recent months. This is where new WSC President Dr. Ray Nadolny plays a key role.

A major component of Nadolny’s background is his ability to share the good news to market and grow an institution. It’s his personable personality and his marketing track record that set him apart during the interview process that was part of the search for a new WSC president.

Nadolny has inherited some great capital improvement opportunities at WSC that allow him to use his marketing experience and expertise to build a solid future for the institution, Williston and the region. He also now has very positive news regarding WSC fall enrollment.

WSC’s shining moment and time has arrived.
