Linda was born on March 15, 1919, in Calvin, N.D., to Frank and Margaret Rossau, the second of three girls. From Calvin they moved to Crocus, N.D., until Linda was 3, then moved to Fairfax, Minn., where she went to the St. Andrews Catholic School and graduated from the eighth grade in 1932, having surpassed two grades along the way.
Her father told all three girls they were going to get an education and they did. Linda graduated from Fairfax High School and furthered her education by graduating in 1940 at The College of Saint Catherine's, Saint Paul, where she received her bachelor of science degree. Having relatives in the area, Linda moved to Williston and became employed with the Williams County agency, going around the county teaching women how to grow victory gardens, budget their income and so on. In memory of her older sister, Linda enrolled in the Coast Guard, was sworn into the SPARS (the United States Coast Guard Women's Reserve) and trained in Washington, D.C., New Orleans and Galveston areas.
She was promoted to Lieutenant JG, was deployed in communications and worked on decoding messages during WWII.
After the war and while visiting Hobert Wheeler, her cousin in Froid, she met Mark Rudolph, and it was love at first sight.
They married on April 22, 1949, at the Immaculate Conception Church of Froid. After several attempts to have children of their own, they decided to adopt.
In 1959, Randy came into their lives, and in 1963, Cathie was adopted.
Linda and Mark were devout Catholics, and Linda was the devoted mother, wife, cook, leader and teacher. She participated in all her children's activities, the Froid Altar Society, was a Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader, catechism teacher, as well as involved in numerous other activities.Â
Surviving are her two children and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her loving husband, Mark; two sisters, Genevive and Francis; grandson, Markus; parents, Frank and Margaret Rossau and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Linda was the last Rossau alive, and so ends an era.
