The Lady Coyotes shot a season-best 376 to place fourth at the Williston Invitational Thursday at the Links of North Dakota.
“That was 20 strokes better than last year, even though Ashley (Beard) had a 76,” said Williston girls golf coach Dennis Healy.
Miranda Zavalney and Kayla Barke each finished with a 87 to pace Williston.
Barke nearly had an even better day. The Williston golfer suffered a two-stroke penalty on the 10th hole for striking the wrong ball.
Anna Peterson posted a career-best 93 for Williston.
Peterson improved by almost 40 strokes from a year ago. -At the same event in 2008, Peterson posted a 131.
Cari Zavalney finished Thursday’s round with a 109, while Abby Witt carded a 111 and Rachel Anderson finished with a 145.
“The three times we practiced on the Links really helped us,” Healy said.
Century won the team title with a 326, while Minot was second at 332. Dickinson placed third with a 359.
“We want to keep staying below 400,” Healy said. “And today, we did that.”
The Lady Coyotes will golf at the Century Invitational a week from today. The invitational will be played at Tom O’Leary.
Williston will also golf at the Bismarck Invitational (Riverwood) on Sept. 19.
