The North Dakota Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Williston Area Chamber on Sept. 22, on the campus of Williston State College from 1-4:45 p.m. to assist businesses with tax issues. Agencies participating in the workshops include the Internal Revenue Service, the North Dakota Tax Department and Job Service Unemployment Insurance. Each agency will cover the following:
The Internal Revenue Service will provide an update on recent tax laws impacting business, information and services available for business taxpayers, employment tax return updates, and ways to avoid small business pitfalls when preparing tax records and tax returns. The IRS will also cover new legislation from the economic stimulus plan including the COBRA health insurance re-imbursement.
Job Service North Dakota unemployment insurance staff is presenting information on changes from the 2009 legislative session that impact employers. Changes made in the session include items such as electronic reporting requirements and penalty changes. Unemployment insurance cost containment opportunities will also be discussed.
The North Dakota Tax Department will address the preparation of sales tax returns using the Web file return and its advantages and the paper ST sales tax return form. Other topics to be discussed include the definitions of gross receipts, nontaxable sales, use tax, exempt sales, retail sales-yes or no, and local nexus. The application of sales tax to contractors and exempt entities will be reviewed. Also how sales tax applies to other types of retail transactions and the “Providing timely information to changes in laws and reporting requirements is an important service that we provide to the business community of North Dakota," says Dave MacIver, N.D. Chamber president. "These workshops offer direct access to the agencies that make those rules and we are excited that we can facilitate that dialogue.”
Cost is $40 per person for any N.D. Chamber or local chamber member and $60 per person for any business that is not a member of the N.D. Chamber or a local chamber. The Williston Community Library Foundation presents “Tables of Contents” Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Williston Community Library from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Unique table arrangements and dining themes for a variety of occasions will be featured by presenters from Williston and the surrounding area. Discover new ideas for entertaining. Learn the history of antique dishes and why they are special to their owner.
Tables feature holiday themes including Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, an Asian theme, and tables displaying depression glass, Fostoria and Fiesta Ware. Light-hearted tables feature fun themes of sunflowers, lady bugs, roosters and hens, Harry Potter and Disney. Twenty different table settings will be presented.
Admission is $7 at the door and refreshments are served during the show.
This annual fundraising event by the foundation gives the library a chance to showcase its beautiful facility. Proceeds will be used toward a new bookmobile which has been ordered and is being built.
