Divers spark Williston to home win over Mandan

The Williston swim and dive team opened its season Thursday with a 118-68 home win over Mandan at the Williston Indoor Pool.

And there were plenty of positives to be taken out of the season-opening meet for Williston.

Williston was particularly solid in the diving competition.

"Diving can be an asset to the team that we haven't had before," said Williston swim and dive coach Jody Bolinske.

Kalli Kojos, Keely Kleven, Alyssa Hodenfield and Danielle Hodenfield were among several Williston divers to put forth strong showings Thursday.

"If we can take three competitive divers and four swimmers to state," Bolinske said. "That's huge for us. That's the difference between us winning the whole thing."

But the divers figure to give the team a boost moving forward.

"In the three weeks of practice, they are doing phenomenal," the Williston coach said.

Williston has been looking forward to the season-opener for some time.

"It's been really important to get these girls fired up," Bolinske said. "We've had three hard weeks of practice. They are seeing why we have been practicing so hard."

Williston will return to action a week from today with a match at Minot.
